Music at Jamboree Heights
Our school has a flourishing music program with 3 choirs, 2 string ensembles and 2 concert bands. A classroom music program is taught to all students from Prep to Year 6. Each class has a half hour lesson each week. The aims of music are to nourish the artist and creative and expressive parts of children’s minds and personalities. In the younger years singing and movement are developed and in the upper years music reading skills, singing, recorder, ukulele and music technology is studied.
This is achieved through the development of the child’s awareness of music, response to music and ability to express him or herself in music. All students are encouraged to develop a love of music during these precious primary school years.
Musical Showcase
An annual school concert is coordinated by the school's music committee. Each year the theme is different and the students work hard to make these concerts very enjoyable for all. Students from many year levels are encouraged to be involved.
Instrumental Programs and Choirs
Selected students from Year 2 are encouraged to join the strings program for the following year. Selected students from Year 4 are encouraged to join the band program sections: brass, percussion and woodwind for commencement in Year 5.
Students in Years 3 and 4 are encouraged to join the junior choir, and students in Years 5 and 6 are encouraged to join the senior choir. Students in Year 6 are encouraged to join the smaller chamber choir.
The choirs and bands compete in various competitions held at different times throughout the year, such as Fanfare, Singfest, and local eisteddfods.
The school music program is supported by a keen committee of parents, teachers and administration staff. Much valuable work is done by this small group to maintain the high reputation of our wonderful program. We encourage all parents with children in the choir and instrumental program to consider joining this valuable group.
